  • Based on the ever-changing nature of the COVID-19 virus, we recommend connecting with your airline or travel agent directly to discuss any protocols that may apply to your country. As needed, we also recommend visiting the International Air Transport Association (IATA) for any updates to international markets and their required procedures. IATA cannot guarantee its accuracy and can accept no liability for any errors or omissions.

The hotels, restaurants and partners will continue to work hand in hand with the authorities.
  • Dominican Republic has a robust health care system that has been able to quickly detect cases of COVID-19 in the country. For more information about the coronavirus in Dominican Republic, please visit the Ministry of Public Health’s website. Falkland Island - Essential Travel Only – 03/15/2022

FALKLAND ISLANDS

Last Updated: 03/15/2021
Subject: Latest Country Restrictions through UFN

CLOSED

BUSINESS FLIGHT RESTRICTIONS

  • Southbound Travel:  UK - Falkland Islands
  • Travel to the Falkland Islands is currently restricted due to Covid-19 and visitors are limited to the following groups:
    • Business visitors required for essential maintenance on equipment, which cannot continue to be operated without the maintenance i.e. KEMH visiting engineers
    • Crew from vessels associated with the Falkland Islands and SGSSI for the purpose of exchange and/or repatriation
    • Scientific and other maritime observers associated with the Falkland Islands and SGSSI for exchange and/or repatriation purposes
    • Individuals already present in the Falkland Islands when LATAM flights were suspended
    • Family members
    • Business visitors for the purpose of delivering projects within the Islands Plan
    • Other business visitors
    • Crew from vessels with no connection to the Falkland Islands for the purpose of exchange and/or repatriation where onward travel arrangements are confirmed and in place.
  • Visitors who meet the requirements detailed above will need to be approved through the CD19 application process before a flight can be booked.
  • Note: CD19 applications are not required from passengers who have Falkland Islands Status, those who have Permanent Residence Permits or those who hold Work Permits.
  • CD19 forms are available to download from this page. https://www.fig.gov.fk/covid-19/travel/
  • Completed CD19 forms are to be returned to [email protected]
  • Pre-Flight Testing
  • From 1 March 2021, all travellers to the Falkland Islands aged two years and over will need to provide proof of a negative PCR test for Covid-19 no more than five days before arrival in Senegal.
  • This is a requirement of the Republic of Senegal and it applies to those travelling to the Falkland Islands as the airbridge stops in Dakar on route to the Falkland Islands.
  • You can also read our ‘frequently asked questions’ concerning the pre-flight testing requirements before travelling southbound which are provided below.
  • All travellers to the Falkland Islands need to do the following before their flight:
    • complete an IDC5 form – this is to be returned to the flight booking office and can be found in as a downloadable document at the foot of this page
    • arrange adequate quarantine accommodation – for more information on how quarantine arrangements work, please visit https://www.fig.gov.fk/covid-19/quarantine
    • arrange transportation to their quarantine accommodation – people must either travel in government-designated transport or, if using a private vehicle, must either travel alone or only with another person or persons who are also required to quarantine for the same period
  • Please note: Due to the health and safety requirements placed on government-designated transport providers, there is limited seating capacity and Penguin Travel has a maximum capacity of 40 passengers. Requesting a seat via Penguin Travel only a few days before the flight is due to arrive in the Falkland Islands is therefore not advisable, as this is too short notice for people to make alternative travel arrangements if Penguin Travel is fully booked.
  • Northbound Travel:  Falkland Islands – UK
  • From 15 February 2021, the UK government has announced new testing requirements for people travelling to England from outside the Common Travel Area, which includes the Falkland Islands.
    • Everyone arriving must quarantine for ten days on arrival
    • Before leaving to travel to England, passengers must book and pay for a ‘travel test package’, which will provide you with Covid-19 tests to be taken on or before day two and on or after day eight of quarantine
    • Complete a passenger locator form before travelling – this is available on the UK government website: https://www.gov.uk/provide-journey-contact-details-before-travel-uk
    • Follow any national or local lockdown requirements
  • The tests cost £210 and must be booked via the following online portal: https://quarantinehotelbookings.ctmportal.co.uk/
  • You will not be able to leave quarantine until you have received a negative result from the day eight test and have quarantined for 10 days.  If you do not take the tests, it could result in a penalty of up to £2,000. Anyone who tests positive for either test must quarantine for a further ten days from the day that the test was taken. You will still be required to undertake quarantine on arrival into the UK, whether you have been vaccinated in the Falkland Islands or not.
  • The UK Ministry of Defence will be complying with these measures wherever possible. However, there are a limited number of exemptions that may be relevant for some roles;
  • https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/coronavirus-covid-19-travellers-exempt-from-uk-border-rules/coronavirus-covid-19-travellers-exempt-from-uk-border-rules
  • The UK Ministry of Defence exemption is reserved for service personnel, MOD civil servants, defence contractors and foreign military personnel to deliver essential defence tasks that are not compatible with self-isolating. From 29 March (previously 15 March) day 2 and day 8 testing must be conducted regardless of whether utilising a defence exemption.
  • Further information is available from the UK government’s website: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/how-to-quarantine-when-you-arrive-in-england

RESTRICTIONS FOR TECHNICAL REFUELING/CREW REST

  • Not possible.

QUARANTINE REQUIREMENTS

  • Everyone arriving in the Falkland Islands, whether travelling by sea or air, must spend their first 14 days in the Islands in quarantine, in accordance with the Infectious Diseases Control (Coronavirus, Quarantine) Regulations 2021. The Regulations came in to force in February 2021 and replace the Regulations made in July 2020. The Regulations can be found at https://www.legislation.gov.fk
  • The purpose of quarantine is to prevent the inadvertent transmission of coronavirus (also known as Covid-19). Coronavirus is an infectious disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
  • The Falkland Islands has so far been successful in limiting the spread of coronavirus because of the measures in place to reduce the risk of coronavirus being inadvertently transmitted by those arriving from overseas. Quarantine is a key part of those measures. There are some very limited exemptions from the requirement to quarantine which strike a careful balance between managing the risk of infection and the need to maintain key services.
  • Before arriving here, people are asked to provide information about their journey, including where they plan to stay in quarantine on arrival and for a telephone number, to enable public health officials to support individuals while in isolation. Failure to provide this information is an offence and if the information changes this must be shared with King Edward VII Memorial Hospital by calling 28000.
  • Accommodation
    • On arrival, people must either travel to their quarantine accommodation in government-designated transport (currently only Penguin Travel is designated) or, if using a private vehicle, they must either travel alone or only with another person who is required to quarantine for the same period.
    • People in quarantine must not share their living accommodation or any facilities (bathroom, kitchen) with anyone who is not in quarantine with them.  While in quarantine, individuals will receive at least one welfare call and will be asked to participate in our surveillance swabbing programme. This involves being swabbed for coronavirus on three separate occasions to make sure that people are free of infection before they leave quarantine.
    • Visitors and people working for private companies must find their own place of quarantine. Government employees will be provided with suitable accommodation by the FIG Housing Department, if travelling on Government business. Any other returning residents (that is, anyone who has Falkland Islands Status, PRP or a permit that is not a visitors permit) who do not have access to suitable quarantine accommodation should contact the FIG housing department for advice by emailing [email protected] or by calling +500 27193.
    • If accommodation is provided by the FIG Housing Department, there is a flat rate service charge of £100 per person for the quarantine period. This covers the use of fuel, limited internet and telephone provision, linen changing and deep cleaning on leaving the property. This service charge is waived for returning residents. If accommodation is provided at the Malvina House Hotel, the base bed and board rate is £2,100 per person, plus any additional charges for the quarantine period.”
  • Exemptions
    • People who are exempt from quarantine will be told before they arrive in the Falkland Islands. The most significant exemption from the requirement to quarantine is for military personnel who have been in quarantine in the United Kingdom for a period of 14 days before their arrival at Mount Pleasant. The defence of the Falkland Islands is a key priority and this exemption ensures that military personnel can assume their duties immediately after they arrive. There are a very few partial exemptions for others who need to leave quarantine to do work that is essential, for example healthcare professionals.
  • Enforcement
    • The requirement to quarantine will be enforced by the Royal Falkland Islands Police. Failure to stay in quarantine, except in very limited circumstances set out in the Regulations, is a criminal offence for which you can be fined up to £2000, imprisoned for up to three months, or both.
  • Review
    • The requirement to quarantine is reviewed every six weeks, to ensure that it is not in place for any longer than reasonably necessary to protect public health.

DATE THE RESTRICTION IS CURRENTLY EXPECTED TO END OR BE RE-EVALUATED

  • COVID19 restrictions are changing every time.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

  • Falkland Islands Government (FIG) have confirmed that they have agreed a further suspension with LATAM for the flight operation from Brazil and Punta Arenas/Santiago routes will remain suspended until at least 29 June 2021.
  • Global restrictions on air travel mean that the South Atlantic Airbridge is currently unable to land in Cape Verde and now refuelling at Dakar. In addition, use of the Airbridge is now restricted to essential travel only. The restrictions on the issuing of visitor permits are still in place, but the restrictions will.
