A Proven Approach to Sustainability
World Fuel Services is tapping the expertise of its Kinect Energy Group, an energy solutions division within World Fuel Services, that delivers trusted energy advice and turnkey sustainability solutions to solve complex energy challenges across a wide range of industries.

“Kinect Energy Group’s deep experience in energy management and sustainability will enable us to create targeted solutions for our business aviation customers. We can quickly explore and deliver solutions designed to help our customers achieve their sustainability goals,” says Darren Fuller, vice president of business development for business aviation at World Fuel Services.

Kinect Energy Group’s expertise is evidenced by its work for large European airports such as London Gatwick Airport (LGW), where it advised the airport on how to achieve carbon-neutrality and provided carbon offsets to assist it in accomplishing this goal. Kinect Energy Group has also worked with Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP) to build and incorporate solar power as part of its renewable energy sourcing program.

Solutions to Help Flight Departments Navigate Carbon Markets
Jet emissions tracking is required by the European Union Emission Trading Scheme (EU-ETS), Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA), and more than 20 worldwide carbon markets. While World Fuel Services’ existing emissions reporting service assists operators to meet the necessary monitoring, verification and reporting, the company has transformed and elevated this program by integrating Kinect Energy Group’s expertise and services in three ways:

  • To complement emissions reporting, World Fuel Services will now supply the necessary carbon offset purchases.
  • It will help flight departments navigate existing and integrate new emission requirements into their sustainability plans in the most cost-effective way possible.
  • World Fuel Services through Kinect Energy Group, will also provide a comprehensive suite of sustainability products and services that goes beyond regulatory compliance, including renewable power sourcing with renewable energy certificates, evaluation and management of both on-site and off-site solar projects with power purchase agreements (PPAs), and sustainability strategy consulting.

New FBO Sustainability Program
For its FBO and airport customers, World Fuel Services now offers the ability to combine bulk fuel with carbon offset purchases, allowing FBOs to enhance their offering to their customers as well. In support, World Fuel Services has updated its Total Aviation Software and TotalFBO applications to make it possible for FBOs to offer their customers the opportunity to buy carbon offsets for each flight when fueling.

In addition to offsets for fuel use, World Fuel Services will also provide sustainability consulting and solar project management services for an FBO’s ground operations For example, a solar project might include adding solar panels to a large aircraft hangar and managing it from the initial concept through construction and generation. World Fuel Services experts will help customers navigate the myriad rules and regulations and help them maximize financial returns, which can be substantial.

A Turnkey Approach to Sustainability Objectives
“We’re able to take a holistic, broad-based approach to energy consulting because of the shared expertise of Kinect Energy Group,” says Fuller. “Working together, we put aircraft operators and FBOs in control of their environmental impact, helping them achieve their sustainability objectives and lower their energy spend. They have peace of mind knowing we will manage their initiatives from start to finish.”
