Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix
The fifth and final race in our F1 series on the 2024 races that impact BGA is the Grand Prix in Las Vegas, which will take place starting at midnight, Sunday, November 24, 2024.
Airport Info:
Operators have a few choices of airport for the race, and the requirements are the same for each. The details of the requirements can be found in the NOTAM here, with a summary below:
Nearest Airports:
- Harry Reid International Airport – KLAS
- Henderson Executive Airport – KHND
- North Las Vegas Airport – KVGT
- Boulder City Municipal Airport – KBVU
Requirements:
- Effective dates:
- November 19, 2024 @ 0700 PST / 1500 UTC
- November 26, 2024 @ 2359 PST / November 27, 2024 @ 0759 UTC
- All arrivals and departures will require an airspace slot.
- All arrivals will require a PPR for parking, even drop-and-goes.
- Traffic Management Initiatives (TMIs) will be utilized when arrival rates exceed airport capacity.
- There is a cap on the number of PPRs available, and these will granted on a “first come, first served” basis.
Per the NOTAM issued by each airport, operators who are not permanently based at KLAS, KHND, or KVGT and going to one of the three need to obtain the PPR. This is done by contacting the PPR line at 702-261-7775.
For Boulder City, the primary contact will be the FBO you wish to use or the Airport Authority.
Preferred Routes and Flight Plans:
Operators will need to file their plans using the preferred routes at the bottom of the aforementioned NOTAM. Also, the PPR number will need to be included in item 11 of the ICAO flight plan.
Special Event Fees:
All of the airports and FBOs will be charging a special event fee. While there are reports of fees being in the $10,000s, our two Air Elite FBOs, Henderson Executive and North Las Vegas, are charging the below per their websites (https://www.hnd.aero/ and https://www.vgt.aero/ respectively). Please note these are based on aircraft square footage, which is calculated as Aircraft Length x Wingspan:
- Group I (Less than 1,250 sq. ft.) = $200.00/Arrival
- Group II (Greater than 1,250 to less than 3,500 sq. ft.) = $1,000.00/Arrival
- Group III (Greater than 3,500 sq. ft.) = $2,000.00/Arrival
At both Henderson and North Las Vegas, the special event fees will be in place as follows:
- November 19, 2024 @ 0001 PST / 0801 UTC
- November 23, 2024 @ 2159 PST / November 24, 2024 @ 0559 UTC
Ground Travel Information:
Distances from the airports:
- KLAS: 5.6 miles / 9 km to downtown/Las Vegas Street Circuit - normally takes 8 minutes by car
- KHND: 12.5 miles / 20.1 km to downtown/Las Vegas Street Circuit - normally takes 20-25 minutes by car
- KLAS: 10.4 miles / 16.7 km to downtown/Las Vegas Street Circuit - normally takes 20-25 minutes by car
- KBVU: 25.8 miles / 41.5 km to downtown/Las Vegas Street Circuit - normally takes 30-35 minutes by car
Ground transportation for both airports:
- Shuttle buses, taxis, and limousines service all major downtown hotels from the airports.
- All FBOs can arrange crew transport.
Hotels:
Upscale hotels line The Las Vegas Strip for the upcoming race week. Las Vegas may see over 100,000 race fans per day during this event, and it has approximately 154,662 rooms. Hurry to reserve the exclusive offers at your preferred hotel with views of one of the most famous streets turned race circuit. Packages at the Wynn Las Vegas include access to the Wynn Grid Club with views of the start/finish straight and pit boxes. The Venetian Resort has track view suites. Bellagio packages include track views and luxury Formula 1 experiences. Multiple hotels face the circuit with rooms gazing directly at the track. Check if the hotel has a balcony view of the race. The SAHARA offers a direct monorail access for hassle-free transportation around Las Vegas. Hilton and Marriott brands can accommodate every budget with 3–5-star properties. Caesar’s Entertainment (Caesars Palace, Harrah’s, Flamingo, and more), MGM, and Wynn Resorts are the ‘founding’ or ‘presenting’ partners for the race.
Read the terms and conditions. Take note of minimum night stay requirements. Check if the rates are non-refundable, non-changeable, and prepay in full at the time of booking. There are hotels offering free cancellation and pay at the property. Large hotel chains are using dynamic pricing meaning prices fluctuate based on demand.
