New Airport in Mexico

View of the city scape of Mexico City

Felipe Carrillo Puerto Airport (MMTL /TQO also known as Tulum International Airport) is located approximately 12 miles (19 KM) southwest of Tulum, Quintana Roo, Mexico. Felipe Carrillo Puerto Airport (MMTL /TQO) serves as a secondary entry point for tourists visiting the Yucatan Peninsula. While Cancún International Airport lies roughly 78 miles (126 KM) to the northeast, Tulum offers an alternative, more convenient access point for travelers venturing to the southern Yucatan attractions.

MMTL /TQO officially opened on December 1, 2023, and is managed by Grupo Olmeca-Maya-Mexica (GAFSACOMM), a company under the ownership of the Mexican military. MMTL /TQO has a well-equipped passenger terminal and a 12,100-foot runway capable of handling wide-body aircraft. The infrastructure also includes 13 aircraft stands, primarily designated for narrow-body aircraft, and additional hardstands for general aviation needs. There is also an FBO for GA offering lounges and tailored services.

To help with ground transportation, the airport will house a Tren Maya station within its grounds. Currently under construction, the facility will provide seamless travel between Tulum, Cancún International Airport, Chetumal Airport, and other tourist destinations across southeastern Mexico.
