Formula 1 China Grand Prix 2024

Continuing our F1 series, which discusses the impact of the F1 2024 season on BGA, the second race we’ll cover is the Grand Prix in China. The race will take place on April 21, 2024, in Shanghai.

Airport Info

 ZSSS – Shanghai-Hongqiao

  • An FBO is available at this airport
  • Curfew 1600Z – 2200Z (0000LT – 0600LT) – Airport is closed during this time  
  • CIQ available and working hours: 2300Z – 1300Z (0700LT – 2100LT)
  • Parking needs to be requested in advance. If ramp parking is not available in ZSSS, the hangar may be. Parking is normally available for stays between overnight and less than 3 days.
  • During 2300Z – 0100Z (0700LT – 0900LT), departures are prohibited, but landings are allowed
  • Distances from the airport:
    • 18KM from downtown, and it normally takes 20-25 mins by car
    • 33KM from the Shanghai International Circuit, and it normally takes 40 – 50 mins by car

ZSPD – Shanghai-Pudong

  • Only the main terminal is available, as there is no FBO
  • CIQ available and working hours: 24 hours
  • Parking needs to be requested in advance but is normally available
  • Distances from the airport:
    • 45KM from downtown, and it normally takes 40-50 mins by car
    • 75KM from the Shanghai International Circuit, and it normally takes 90 – 100 mins by car  

Ground transportation for both airports:

  • Shuttle buses, taxis, and limousines service all major downtown hotels from the airports 
  • All three main agents (JSC, Fastransit, and ATS) can arrange crew trans
  • All major car rental companies have service counters in the terminal

Visitor Info

  • Passenger visa requirements are as follows:
    • Visa-free entry has been implemented based on the following nationalities and timelines:
      • France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Spain, and Malaysia 
      • December 1, 2023 to November 30, 2024
      • not exceeding 15 days
    • Switzerland, Ireland, Hungary, Austria, Belgium, Luxembourg
      • March 13 to November 30, 2024
      • not exceeding 15 days
  • Nationals from the following countries can apply for a 72/144 hour transit visa exemption:
    • Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Croatia, Switzerland, Norway, Russia, UK, Ireland, Cyprus, Bulgaria, Romania, Ukraine, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Macedonia, Albania, Monaco, Belarus, United States, Canada, Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, Chile, Australia, New Zealand, South Korea, Japan, Singapore, Brunei, United Arab Emirates, and Qatar
  • Crew visa requirements:
    • All foreign crew members must have a Chinese Visa to enter, regardless of nationality
