DNAA is located about 25 km (15.5 miles) west-southwest of Abuja, the capital of Nigeria. The airport has a single runway (4/22), domestic and international commercial terminals, and a separate GA terminal and apron.

A new international terminal was built and inaugurated in 2023. The new facility can process 15 million passengers annually. Nigeria's aviation industry is expected to grow rapidly over the coming years, as evidenced by this new terminal and other construction in and around the airport.

Unlike Murtala Muhammed International in Lagos, DNAA has no FBOs for GA traffic. The GA terminal is split into several VIP and standard lounge areas, which provide seating and privacy. The separate GA ramp can accommodate approximately 40 small to mid-sized jets. Two ground handlers are on site, and the ramp is controlled by the Airport Authority.

Most business in Abuja is conducted in the downtown region, where several international hotels are located. The drive from the airport to downtown is approximately 40 km (24 miles) and takes between 40 and 60 minutes, depending on traffic.

Security

Security Level 5:

Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) party defeated the opposition in a relatively peaceful presidential election in 2023. State governors enjoy a high level of power and autonomy under Nigeria's federal structure, and political violence is particularly common around gubernatorial polls. Nigeria's economy is highly dependent on the oil and gas sector, which accounts for over 80% of government revenue. Despite the wealth generated from the oil and gas industry, approximately four in 10 Nigerians live below the poverty line. The overall assessment of threats in Nigeria is Very High. Petty and violent crime are prevalent and constitute the primary security threat for visitors to Nigeria. The threat of terrorism by both transnational and domestic organizations is a concern throughout Nigeria. Protests and street demonstrations occur frequently and often turn violent. Strikes are common occurrences and can affect services used by travelers, such as transportation. Militancy is a serious security concern, primarily in the southeastern oil-producing region. Maritime piracy incidents off the Nigerian coast in the Gulf of Guinea are increasing in frequency and pose a risk to maritime operators and oil exporters in the region. Sectarian violence is common in Nigeria due to the country's ethnic and religious diversity, as well as economic disparities between various groups. Corruption is rampant in Nigeria and exacerbates security concerns.
